G.S. Marmi

Company

Since ancient times, we find Portoro in the imperial villas of ancient Rome, as well as in the most luxurious buildings of the Renaissance, in Roman churches and in the most luxurious European palaces of the 19th century, during which it was mainly used in Switzerland, Belgium, and France, where it was particularly employed in Versailles.

A fundamental characteristic of Portoro marble, in addition to its golden veins, is the background color that must be as dark as possible until reaching the so-called “sepia black”: this characteristic is typical of all our material and significantly changes the optical effect of the material itself when polished and installed. Portoro marble has been used for centuries in all high-end processing and extra-luxury cladding. It is, in fact, found in the most beautiful historic Italian palaces.

The “Portoro” marble is known and appreciated worldwide for its unique and inimitable chromatic characteristics, as well as for its technical properties, which identify it as one of the best varieties of ornamental marble. Its value is also due to its limited availability, as it is only found in the area of Portovenere in Liguria.
